Due to high gas prices and rapidly rising inflation, please be aware, so are thefts and scams.

Scam Alert!  The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office has received numerous complaints about possible fraudulent telephone calls to our residents in the county. The callers claim to be Deputies from HCSO and are requesting money for missed court cases.  The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office DOES NOT ask for any type of monetary payment over the phone. If you have received a call like this or you are unsure if the call is valid, please call 317-773-1872 or our non-emergency dispatch number at 317-773-1282.  Remember to never give out any personal information over the phone if you are unsure of the source or feel that the call may not be valid.

Scam Alert!  The Indiana State Police have become aware of a vehicle purchase scam that have occurred throughout the state of Indiana recently exhibiting similar fraudulent activities. All the cases have the following elements: a person wants to purchase an ATV, side by side, lawn mower, dirt bike, etc. over the phone; provided driver’s licenses and credit cards are fraudulent; credit card transactions might be declined, additional credit cards may be used for the entire purchase, or charges may be disputed later by the actual credit card owner; The suspect’s story is often that they are buying the vehicle for someone else, who is not present; and the suspect usually brings a moving van/rental truck to transport a fraudulently purchased vehicle.
